We know that regular folks take NAD boosting vitamin supplement Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Reviews) and experience incredible results. But Chromadex management (sellers of NR) often say in interviews and on earnings calls that many professional teams and athletes take their supplement too. Unfortunately, they’ve never identified which teams or athletes they’re referring to. But with a little effort we now have an answer — and no doubt every other team and athlete on the planet will find this information incredibly useful.

Chromadex (Sellers of NR) CEO Rob Fried on the Optimal Performance Podcast:

“Probably the biggest growth area at the company has been sports performance.

Last September, I received a call from one of the great NFL teams.

I flew in and met with the Head Coach an hour before they had a Thursday night game last year.

He met with me, his trainer, chief medical officer and I brought in our two chief science officers — one is the co-head of neurology at Harvard Medical School (Dr. Rudy Tanzi), and the other is the discoverer Dr. Charles Brenner (who discovered NR as an NAD+ boosting vitamin).

And we met with them for an hour right before the game.

And he was obsessed with understanding the mechanisms and science behind this ingredient he had been giving his players AND noticing the benefits.

So, we give a full hard science presentation to this coach.

And ever since then every player gets it every day in the form of a shake.

It’s a very high performing team.

Brilliant coach.

And since then we have dozens of NBA players who have contacted us —tennis players, baseball teams that we’ve begun supplying it to.

It helps recovery. It helps focus. It helps energy levels.

Particularly for a player in your 30s it makes a lot of sense.

We have full NSF certified for sport.”

So, which NFL team is Chromadex CEO Fried referring to that takes NAD+ booster NR daily?

Our first clue comes from a Tweet by Dr. Charles Brenner (Chromadex Scientific Advisory Board):

Let’s dissect the Tweet.

First, having followed Dr. Brenner on Twitter for a long time, it appears he only gives compliments when he knows first hand they’re fact based — especially about science. “Evidence-based’ refers to the science. So, Brenner, Tanzi, and Fried were likely visiting the Pats to talk science.

Second, the NFL schedule confirms the Patriots played the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday October 4, 2018. Remember, CEO Fried said above that Chromadex met with the Pats before a Thursday night game.

Third, Dr. Rudy Tanzi, referenced in Brenner’s Tweet and by Chromadex CEO Fried above, is in fact co-head of neurology at Harvard Medical School and sits on the Chromadex Scientific Advisory Board.

But is Tanzi the Patriots team sport scientist (as asked in the above Tweet)?

Dr. Tanzi confirmed working for the Pats in the YouTube video below (21:50 mark):

“I do some work with the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick on brain health which is nice. I got a Super Bowl ring back in ’16 for helping out in that regard…..”

Fast forward to 2019 — Not only does Dr. Tanzi have ONE but TWO Super Bowl Rings for his efforts helping the Pats.

Here is Dr. Tanzi with Patriots QB Tom Brady:

Finally, Dr. Brenner posted some photos from his visit to the Pats (though it appears from CEO Fried above that they were at the Patriots’ stadium talking about much more than just the Patriots):

So, mystery solved.

The most successful and secretive franchise in NFL history the New England Patriots has its team taking NAD+ booster NR on a daily basis.

As Chromadex CEO Fried points out above, athletes take the NAD booster for recovery, focus, and energy.

No doubt every athlete (professional and non-professional) looking for an edge will be interested in this discovery.
