Dr. Drew recently hosted Chromadex CEO Rob Fried and Chairman Frank Jaksch on his TV show (video below). They discussed NAD, ongoing studies related to Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Reviews), and COVID-19:

The video interview below is ~20 minutes long and begins at the 59 minute mark:

Dr. Drew:

“I’ve been looking for interesting ways to reduce the risk of Coronavirus…”

“their (Chromadex) patented product Niagen…which is a supplement I take called TRU Niagen, which, having spoken to their scientists before, I became convinced they were onto something.”

“When I’ve spoken to Dr. Brenner (FAQs), who’s your chief scientific advisor, I was really persuaded by the biology. As a result, I have my wife taking this product every day. I’ve been taking it for 18 months now.”

CEO Rob Fried on NR and COVID-19:

“I think it’s really important that TRU Niagen be included in that conversation (of vitamins and supplements to be taken during this Coronavirus period)….we think it’s great that there are dietary supplements that strengthen the immune system out there. But there’s actual data and science to support the thesis behind elevating NAD levels with TRU Niagen at this particular time.”

Chairman Frank L. Jaksch on Adverse Effects of NR:

“I’ve never seen any adverse effect (from taking TRU Niagen) even when I increased my dose. The human studies that go up to even 2 grams have never shown any real adverse effects.”

CEO Rob Fried (Part 1 Q&A with Dr Drew on COVID-19):

“Dr. Charles Brenner (Chromadex Chief Scientific Advisor)…what he’s doing presently is he’s adding TRU Niagen to the solution and showing a protective benefit. So, as soon as he has that data he’ll come up with a corollary publication perhaps in the next few weeks.”

Dr Drew (Part 2 Q&A on COVID-19):

“I want to make sure I’m hearing you right: (Dr. Brenner is working on a study showing) in-vitro evidence of resistance to infection?”

CEO Rob Fried (Part 3 Q&A with Dr Drew on COVID-19):

“Yes. We should have that in a few weeks.”

CEO Rob Fried on Reasons to Take NR to Increase NAD:

“The cell comes under stress for a whole series of reasons. If you overeat, if you don’t sleep enough, if you’re exposed to an infection, if you’re fighting a procedure or injury. All of those are issues that require an elevation of NAD for the cell to repair itself. General aging is one of those stressors.

“Most of the people who work in our office take maybe a 600mg dose on a daily basis. And if a particular stressor is introduced they elevate it.”

CEO Rob Fried on his Scientific Advisory Board

“The entire scientific advisory board at Chromadex includes the Nobel Prize winner John Walker who studies mitochondria at Cambridge, Nobel Prize winner at Stanford Roger Kornberg in Chemistry, Neurologist at Harvard Medical School Rudy Tanzi, Dr Brenner, Brunie Felding who studies cancer at Scripps Research. This is the group that advises Chromadex. They all take TRU Niagen. They all work with Dr Brenner on a regular basis.”

CEO Rob Fried on Pre-Clinical and Clinical Studies on NR

“There definitely are (other therapeutic uses in specific illnesses people are talking about). But at this point although there are hundreds of pre-clinical studies that have been published and there are 50 listed at clinicaltrials.gov of human clinical studies that are ongoing presently there are only 8 that have been published. All fascinating…..”
