How do you decide which NMN (FAQs and Anecdotes) brand to take? If you’re struggling with this question, you’re not alone. Many consumers take NAD boosting supplement NMN on the advice of Harvard’s Dr. David Sinclair. Unfortunately, Dr. Sinclair doesn’t endorse any specific NMN brand. So, consumers are on their own to determine which of the hundreds of NMN brands to purchase. The only advice Dr. Sinclair provides is that when you’re evaluating NMN brands “you want to look for good manufacturing practices, GMP grade, high quality and trusted manufacturers“. Is the average consumer properly equipped to make such a determination on his or her own? Well, thanks to a new report, we now have some visibility into the immense challenge consumers face in identifying safe and reliable NMN brands:

Key Excerpts from “Quantitative Analysis of 22 NMN Consumer Products (October 2021)

“The 22 NMN brands with highest market share on Amazon (as of mid-2021) were tested for potency.

  • 14% had NMN content at or above the label claim.
  • 23% had NMN content just below label claim; or 88-99% of label claim.
  • 64% had NMN content below the method reporting limit or detection limit (indicating less than 1% of the claimed NMN was present)
  • NMN was not detected in 14% of the products.

These findings are consistent with earlier analyses demonstrating that the quality of NMN-containing products (as assessed by NMN potency) varies widely, even among the top selling brands.

According to this study, the majority of the products one might purchase online contain such a small amount of NMN that there would be no clinical benefits achieved from the dose.

Another concern with these adulterated products is that the actual contents are not known and could pose a risk to the user”
