The Daily Buzz has a short interview with NAD expert Dr. Charles Brenner discussing his research into COVID-19 and NAD. Key quotes and video embedded below.

“With COVID cases on the rise, new pre-clinical research from Chromadex is offering a potential breakthrough in how we could eventually fight it off.

It finds that NAD molecules — essential for cellular repair — are depleted trying to fend off the infection — which means boosting NAD levels could be key to immunity in humans.”

Dr. Brenner:

“We’ve looked at a gene program that happens in humans with COVID-19 expression.

So, COVID-19 turns on a bunch of genes in humans — does the same thing in mice with a Coronavirus that infects mice.

We’ve shown that the mouse Coronavirus drives down NAD.

We’ve shown that the same genes are involved in human Coronavirus.

And so the next step is to put the human Coronavirus into a mouse and to test the ability of Niagen — which is an NAD booster that we discovered and characterized — whether that blocks establishment of infection in mice.

And then we can do human trials as well to look at the activity of Niagen in disease prevention and potentially in treatment as well.”
