There are many reasons one might miss a day taking vitamin supplement Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Reviews). But what does it mean for us? Here’s what the folks at Chromadex said via email in response to a broad question about missing a day of supplementation or simply taking days off:
From Chromadex (via email):
“Unfortunately, we currently have no data evaluating the effects of Tru Niagen® supplementation every other day.
However, in our clinical study by Conze et al., 2019, 100mg, 300mg, and 1000mg of Niagen® supplementation significantly increased NAD+ in a dose-dependent manner after two weeks.
Based on additional published human studies, Niagen® begins to elevate NAD+ levels in the blood within hours of supplementation, peaking with daily supplementation after about two weeks.
Following complete cessation of Niagen® supplementation, NAD+ levels begin to decline after several days, returning to baseline within a few weeks.
Therefore, if you have been maintaining daily supplementation for at least several weeks and then stop for a few days, NAD+ levels should still be elevated for up to several days.
Our capsules are intended to be taken indefinitely as a dietary supplement.
Tru Niagen® is most effective when used daily over an extended period of time.”
