Last week, Cornell University hosted a webinar entitled Bone Appétit: Is Your Pet’s Nutrition the Key to Health, Wellness, and Longevity? (video embedded below). Since we’ve heard numerous anecdotes from people who’ve fed supplement Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Reviews) to their pets, I was curious if the panel (which included the Chief Veterinary Officer at Nestle Purina) had done any work in this area. It seemed plausible considering that another Nestle division Nestle Health recently launched a new brand with NR as a key ingredient.

While the panel addressed only a few audience questions on the webinar, Cornell’s John P. Loftus, PhD, DVM (Assistant Professor, Small Animal Internal Medicine) was kind enough to respond via email to whether he’d seen anything in his research suggesting that raising pet NAD levels with NR could be helpful:

“I haven’t seen anything in my research, but theoretically NR should be very safe and very likely has benefit.

I also haven’t seen anything in the general dog nutrition literature, but will keep on the lookout now!”
