Many people are searching for vitamin supplements to help improve their egg quality. We recently learned of a Harvard trained fertility expert who recommends Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Reviews). We’ve since learned of another fertility specialist who’s equally enthusiastic about NR and recommends it to his patients. Below is a short 5-minute video where he explains why:

Dr Spence Pentland on The Conception Channel (YouTube)

“Hello everybody.

Welcome to The Conception Channel.

I am Dr Spence Pentland.

And this is a reproductive research review video.

Just a short look at studies that can impact fertility and your journey toward creating your family.

So this one was really exciting.

Last year, in February 2020, when it came out in the journal Cell — one of the most prominent journals on earth — and it was done on rodents, which most need to be to start.

But it was on this substance called NAD, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, which doesn’t matter here.

But what they found was that when (NAD) levels were lower — and this is in advanced maternal age — when levels of this substance were lower in the cells of these animals, their fertility rates coincided.

So, when they found something that repleted or increased the levels of this (NAD) in the cells, fertility was rescued.

They used the term “during advanced maternal age”.

So, very exciting.

Something like this never seen before.

So, we look at the highlights really quickly.

And what we just said, NAD is associated with egg dysfunction with advanced maternal age.

And egg quality and fertility can be restored by this NMN treatment in the aged mice.

And, as well, a supplement in the embryo media also helped with developmental milestones with the embryo.

So not only restoring fertility, ovulation — but also helping growth of the embryo along the way.

So very exciting.

So NMN, Nicotinamide Mononucleotide is a derivative of vitamin B3, Niacin.

And this is very homogenous to another substance — much less expensive, more commonly sold — called NR or Nicotinamide Riboside (NR).

And that’s what we sell in our clinic — to women to restore fertility and to men to help maybe protect from sperm DNA damage.

So now this research is mainly why we utilize it (NR) so much.

But we also caution to keep fairly low dose just until more research is confirmed because there may very well be a dose-dependent concern with anything that you take.

Too much isn’t always better.

Please understand this.

So, we go down very quickly to the discussion.

And, in summary, there’s a trend across the developed world to defer pregnancy until later in life.

And we know that.

And that increases the demand for assisted reproductive technologies like IVF.

And the age ends up being maternal and paternal — we should state that ends up being the greatest challenge to reproduction.

And there’s currently no therapeutic treatment to improve egg quality or at least that has been proven.

That’s what we’re trying to work on at least — improving the environment every day — this in particular with egg quality.

So in in this study, they showed that NAD declines with age.

And the NAD levels being low show impaired fertility in mice.

But when we can raise those NAD levels with things like NMN — and this supplement more commonly the NR Nicotinamide Riboside — we should be able to extrapolate that we can use either or both maybe — but more commonly and more affordably the NR.

When we use these to increase NAD levels cellularly, there’s improvement in fertility, fertilization rates, ovulation rates, and a protective mechanism of some sort within the embryo and its development.

So very exciting.

So, talk to your professional or myself or somebody that you trust about NAD, Nicotinamide Riboside (NR), or Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN).

And consider incorporating that in your fertility journey moving forward especially if you and your partner — if you do have one sperm, your partner or husband are of advanced maternal age.”

COMMENT: When asked via email about which NR brand he recommends, Dr Pentland said he suggests Niagen for anyone who’s not a client of his. For clients, he has his own NR. You can learn more about Dr Pentland at his website.
