During the Q&A portion of last week’s presentation, Parkinson’s expert Dr. Charalampos (Haris) Tzoulis was asked if, based on his ongoing clinical trials studying vitamin supplement Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Anecdotes), he had any advice for consumers looking to prevent neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s. Here’s what he said:

At the 50 minute mark of the presentation linked to below:

QUESTION:

If a consumer wants to attempt to prevent neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s, what dose of NR should he or she take?

DR. TZOULIS:

“Well, this consumer should not be trying to prevent Parkinson’s disease until the results of our studies have been published.

The reason I’m saying this is, of course, NR is a nutraceutical which is available.

It can be purchased.

It has been shown to be safe as a nutritional supplement.

And it is safe as a nutritional supplement.

However, we don’t know whether it’s safe for long term consumption at the very high doses (1000mg daily) we’re using it to treat neurological disease.

So, our studies will answer that, and once they do, then people will be able to use this knowledge.

But, at the moment, I would not recommend to anyone to be taking NR at doses higher than the the ones recommended for its consumption as a nutraceutical.

I wouldn’t.

I wouldn’t do it myself.

Not yet”
