During his appearance on this week’s “The Story of a Brand” podcast, Chromadex (sellers of NR) CEO Rob Fried described his own experience taking NAD+ boosting vitamin supplement Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Anecdotes). Here’s what he said (podcast and transcript below):

At the 49:10 minute mark below:

“In my particular case, when I started taking it (NR) 8 years ago, there were 3 things…

I didn’t take it because I was thinking about these 3 things, but I noticed it after 3 months.

#1 – I had a ski injury I’d been living with for 15 years.

And I had a really sore knee that was so bad that I would always lean on the other knee.

When I walked up the steps, I’d always do one leg at a time, because the knee hurt so much.

But after 3 months it was gone.

The knee was healed.

I barely remember which one it was at this point.

The other thing I had noticed was, I was sleeping very, very poorly.

I would wake up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep.

And, all of a sudden, after 3 months, my wife said “you’re sleeping 7 hours every night. You haven’t slept like this, ever”

It improved my sleep.

And, we know that sleep is related to brain inflammation.

And, then, the 3rd thing that I noticed was that, I had already gotten to the point where in the middle of the afternoon I’d go take a nap.

I would shut my office door and lie on the couch.

And, I noticed, after 3 months, I’d stopped taking naps — I never felt like I needed to take a nap.

And, I said, it’s this thing (NR) that’s doing this.

….It had a dramatic impact on my attitude after that.

That was my own personal experience.

What we hear all the time is…

I’m dreaming. I remember my dreams. This is something we hear all the time.

I started taking it and all of a sudden I’m dreaming a lot and remembering my dreams.

My hair and nails are growing very fast.

These are things we hear all the time, constantly.

And, I’m living a more energized world.

My workout levels are higher.

My recovery is quicker.

I’m less sore.

What I would recommend to people is take note of the things in your life that are performing less well today than they did 10, 20, 30 years ago.

Is it sleep?

Is it shoulder pain?

Is it elbow pain?

Is it your workout levels?

Is it your general tiredness?

Are you forgetting where your keys are?

Does it seem like I’m forgetting things that I didn’t used to forget?

Make a note of what those things are, and see if you can turn it into a metric of some sort — like number of hours of sleep, number of times per week that I consider I forgot something.

Or, if I work out hard, am I sore 2 days later.

It’s different for every person.

But try to quantify it.

Focus a little bit less on how you feel.

Try to break it down into something measurable.

Create a metric out of it.

And, then take Tru Niagen for 2 or 3 months, and then re-measure the same metric.

And that’s where you’re going to find an improvement”
