During an investor conference presentation last week, Niagen (NR brand) CEO Rob Fried explained why his team just recently launched a Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Anecdotes) skin care product. Here’s the conversation (audio and transcript below):
Question:
”…You recently introduced a product for the skin.
Do you see that product as primarily preventative or something you should take when you don’t have issues with skin, or more for old people like me?
CEO Rob Fried:
”When you elevate NAD, you’re improving the cell’s ability to heal itself.
You’re also improving the cell’s ability to manufacture ATP, or energy.
An aged skin cell is a damaged skin cell.
Whether it’s wrinkles or age spots or elasticity or even its ability to retain water.
All those things are age related things.
So, when you elevate the NAD, you’re giving the cell it’s own ability to heal itself.
So, we see the skin product we just put out on the market…
NAD is everywhere in the skin market right now…
Most of these NAD things are gimmicks.
Because NAD doesn’t elevate NAD.
You need a precursor to elevate NAD.
And tackling mTOR is a smart way to do it.
But we see it as both prophylactic and therapeutic in the case of skin, because you do improve the ability to heal itself.
We’ve done a number of studies globally — one in Britain, one in China, and one in the US.
None have been published yet, but will be shortly — that have given us the confidence in the results, of the indications i just mentioned — that applying Niagen (NR) directly to the skin DOES penetrate the skin, DOES elevate NAD levels in skin cells, and DOES have a therapeutic benefit”
