In a presentation given yesterday entitled “Boosting Resiliency with Nicotinamide Riboside”, NAD+ expert Dr. Charles Brenner talked about vitamin supplement Nicotinamide Riboside “NR” (FAQs) (Reviews) as a potential treatment for those suffering from ALS. The following are his key concluding quotes (full video below):
At the 37:37 mark (transcript below):
“So, in conclusion — and I’d be happy to take questions…
NAD coenzymes are the central catalysts of metabolism.
Metabolism is the life force.
And the NR pathways are upregulated when NAD comes under attack.
And the ALS pathology appears to involve impaired NAD dependent bioenergetics and ROS control.
And that both NR and CNM-Au8 are promising approaches to treatment.
CNM8 can only be accessed through clinical trials.
Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) has been tested for safety in the general public, in the aging public, in the overweight public, in the context of NR and pterostilbene, in ALS patients.
NR is safe up to 1-2 grams per day.
So, this is something we know anecdotally that members of the ALS community are trying.
I’m always asked about a dose.
I’m a PHD scientist.
I’m not your doctor.
But I will state that most clinical trials are done in the 1-2 gram range
You can see that the Norway ALS trial is being tested at an effective dose of 1-1.5 grams of NR per day.
The safe stuff that has the longest safety dossier comes from Chromadex is called Niagen.
…I would argue that NR is the best way to boost and restore NAD in a disease like ALS”

How can I get in on a trial for this? Diagnosed July 29 of this year. This is exciting news. Would love to be in the trials
